Fun Allowed is on hiatus!
Fri Nov 13, 2015 3:00 pm by CasualCollision
It is uncertain how long this hiatus will last, and what changes will be made once it ends.

Admittedly, the main reason this hiatus is happening is because I'm running out of ideas as to how I can really involve myself.

The other reason is because, well, I hate seeing this place dead. The vast majority of the hiatus will probably be spent doing things entirely unrelated to Fun Allowed. However, I might look into finding a less restrictive host... eventually.

No. It causes too many problems, and it's not worth having.

PostSubject: Broken Gameboy    Sun Dec 01, 2013 12:54 am

So earlier today, my brother in law gave me a broken Gameboy he had found in his shed that belonged to the previous owner of his house. He gave it to me, and it's basically mine if I can fix it. Gameboys tend to be extremely sturdy, and are made to last, but their Achilles heel of their design is their battery compartment. The cause of its demise was alkaline corrosion from leaking batteries. Looking up online, it's said that my best bet is by using vinegar and rubbing alchohol. I've been doing so this past night, and I've gotten no results thus far.

Do you guys have any suggestions of how I might save it?

You could go get it fixed at a local game store that offers the service but it'll probably cost more than buying another one, plus I'm assuming you want it for sentimental value

All I can say is keep trying

After some needed assistance from by dad, I managed to get the Gameboy to turn on. The problem now is that unfortunately, upon turning it on it seems that the software is corrupted. This is likely due to the fact that the alkaline made it to the circuitry of the hardware and dirtied that up as well. After cleaning the circuitry as well, my dad and I still yield no results. Still, it's progress.

my SP survived being completely submerged in water overnight (although it took three days to dry out) so
there's always hope

So uh, I managed to actually get the Game Boy in complete running shape. No dead pixels or anything, quite awhile ago actually. Heheh.

I'll be locking this now.
